A few weeks ago i read an article suggesting moss should go in your compost with other greens.

I do put it out for the city compost which gets extremely hot. If you re planting in soil or over a flat surface make sure the surface is smoothed and totally flat. Put a handful of moss in a blender along with a cup of buttermilk and a cup 453 5 gr of water. Test the soil for a ph between 5 0 and 6 0.

Ps if the roof is visible you could even make a feature of it as a green roof by adding sedum sempervivum etc. Peat moss garden soil recently i started a square foot type garden and many of the books i ve read recommend using peat moss to improve the soil. I live in vancouver british columbia where you learn to live with moss. Moss prefers acidic soil with a ph between 5 0 and 6 0 so you may need to raise or lower the ph depending on your results. A large tree needs a lot of organic matter to alter its soil.

Do an internet search for green roof there are several mat systems like turf to give you an idea of the types of plants you could use they don t need lots of soil. Blend the ingredients into a slurry. Spreading moss if you have a rock garden or other place where transplanting won t work try spreading moss slurry on the proposed garden spot.
